Tefal 3 in 1 Rice and Slow Cooker?

Thought this would be the best place to ask for advice!

OH would like me to get a rice cooker and I have seen a couple, one which is also a pasta cooker:T Anyway, today I come across the Tefal 3 in 1 Rice and Slow Cooker .... slow cooker too hey:D BUT it is a whole £30 more than 'just a rice cooker'. Is it worth it? Does anyone have one that can offer a real review? Is it worth it? It seems a lot easier than cooking in pans etc .... just chuck everything in ... right?

I pop into OS now and again and have read about the wonders of a slow cooker and I have to say that it does look very MS :T Am hoping to get my tooshy into gear and have a food shopping budget ... have been reading through people's monthly food spends .... shame on me this week is all I can say :o
I can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....

How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!

I thunk I've made you think for a minute!

I looked in to one of these before I bought my slow cooker. And it just would not have been big enough for me to cook whole joints etc in.

So did not bother. But after nectar vouchers I only paid £6.50 for slow cooker anyway.

Rice is easy to cook in a pan. Unless you happen to be my husband. Even since we moved and now have a gas hob we don't have savoury rice very often. As it never seems to cook properly.

I would suggest going to somewhere like Robert Dyas and having a look at one to see the size.

I've been thinking hard about one of these too - we don't eat meat in our house so not being able to fit in a joint isn't a problem.

The win for me is I'm not sure how much I would use a sc - most of the recipes seem to be rather meat orientated. If I get the 3 in 1 then I can still use the rice cooker if I don't get on with the sc bit - and we eat a lot of rice!

My main concern is where I would put it in our tiny kitchen - most space is eaten up by the Easiyo, coffee machine, food processor and Kenwood Chef!

If you do get on eI would be very interested to hear your opinions
  • Has anyone got the Tefal Electronic Rice,Steamer and Cooker? I'm thinking of buying a slow cooker and this looks great as you can cook perfect rice as well?! :T

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks

    Hiya

I got it last month. It makes very good rice and pasta...you must follow the instructions carefully for the amount of water you put in for rice as it cooks automatically, and turns itself off when the water has all gone.

I've been using it as a slo-cooker as well and it's really good - you can program it to be on for upto 9 hours, and then it goes onto a keep warm function. With the rice and steam cooking you can delay the start of the programme as well.

The recipe book is not so good not very much in it, and not really any generic advice except for rice cooking.

I see recipes on here for slo cookers - where they talk about using medium and high heat settings. The tefal only has one setting for the slo-cooker - but I wonder whether it's possible to use either the rice or steam setting to get the same High effect for short periods ? I think that using these settings makes it heat up very quickly. Does anyone know ?
  • Thanks for you advise, where did you buy yours from?? Did you get a good price? Been looking round and the cheapest i've seen it for is £40 from Amazon (want the silver and black one)

I got mine on a spur of the buy moment at the local hardware shop, and paid £49 for it....not so money-saving, and definetely think you've got the better price there sam.

    hi

I saw this in debenhams last week - reduced to £35. (and you'll get nectar points, if you're saving them that is)

I've been thinking about getting this one for ages.

But then I wimped and got a cheapie SC only.

Debenhams has a sale starting next week. Debenhams card holders cab get extra off on Wednesday (special account holders only preview evening 4,30-10pm) and all day Thursday. Extra discount depends on amount spent in single transaction, fir example £30 or more get £3 off; £50 or more, £5; £120 or more £15; £200 or more £40.

And card holders get a free cake and cappuccino in those days.

Debenhams do this a lot, so I have a Debenhams card just for this (the extra discount, not the cake and cappuccino). I would never carry a balance on the card though as the interest rate is rubbish,
