Laid off - can I work elsewhere?

I'm a longtime lurker on these pages. Brilliant stuff, guys. Anyway, I have recently been laid off. There was a clause in my contract, and I am not getting paid. Now, I have checked the acas website and have been to CAB but no appointment until end of the month. What I need to know now is can I work for a temp agency in the meantime?

I asked at the jobcentre and they said yeah, it would be like I had two part-time jobs, although one is currently zero hours! But as I was laid off, I have no P45 to give to the agency. Is that all ok?

Never been in this boat before, I suppose I could just resign. I assume that I wouldn't have to serve my notice period. Help on that would be useful too.

Just fill in a P46 form and give it in to the agency, it's for people who have more than one job or haven't got their P45 back yet (like you).
