First-time buyers also paying 12.6% more than a year ago.

I see interest only mortgages are now on offer too, though only at 90% LTV. I wonder how long until the Post Office sucumbs to political pressure and increases LTVs to 95-100%?

    That's a bit harsh.

Remember though that interest rates are extremely low so while house prices are increased, cheap loans are available improving affordability.

Exactly. Affordability criteria and lending conditions dictate prices. It's within the interest of the some very influential groups to ensure first-time buyers can pay as much as possible.

While the government props up people who cant afford the 'home' they live in. What hope is it for the people who could afford it (if it was a little cheaper).

Appears mad that having had something is more important to keep than being allowed to have the same thing.

I was born at the wrong time, in the wrong part of the country, after the boat had sailed. So I'm gonna convert me old mans shed into a compact & bijou palace!

(Unless that is a boat I can see on the horizon coming in to dock...;))
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Do you know who funds Post office mortgages?

There's a delicious irony in that.....
“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Conflicting reports from the same paper?

Death knell sounded for interest-only mortgages

Lloyds Bank is cutting back on interest-only mortgages as it seeks to mitigate the increased risks posed by such deals.

The bank, which is Britain’s biggest mortgage lender and is part-owned by the taxpayer, will insist that customers looking to borrow more than £500,000 make capital repayments. People taking out interest-only mortgages through Halifax or Cheltenham & Gloucester will also have to pay a levy of 0.2 of a percentage point.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:
