OH Birthday, photography hamper...HELP!!!!

It is OH's birthday coming up & I am looking to do him a hamper of photography related items.

He has just upgraded to a DSLR camera & is enjoying taking lots of photos & learing what he can do!

I am hoping to make him a hamper of photography things but have no real ideas of what to put in....can anyone help please.

Thanks Nicky

It would depend what his new camera came with, but how about a camera case, a bigger memory card (the ones which come with the camera are usually quite small). A spare rechargeable battery, a mini tripod (perhaps one of those ones that has legs which twist & grip onto objects). It should be possible to search for accessories for his camera.

A nice photo frame for his best effort, or even a digital photo frame - they've come down a lot in price.

A book on how to take better photos - maybe even some software so he can tweak the photos he's taken or apply effects to them.

    Hope this helps

Thanks Barbeka.....problem is he has already got a lot of bits! He has already bought several lenses & it came with a good case. He picked up a tripod the other day too & a book! He keeps skuppering all my idea's!

I like the battery idea (will have to rummage in his case to make sure he does not already have one) and will probably get a memory card.

I was looking at the digital frames last night, we already have one with our bog standard photo's on but was thinking a nice one to hang on the wall. I was looking to see if any come with a battery facility, but all the reviews said they only last a couple of hours before needing to be re-charged (& we tend to have our current one on all day). We are hoping to move next year so if I do this we will probably just have a cable showing on the wall rather than getting it channeled in.

He has also been buying one of the magazines so I may get him a subscription to it.

I am trying to think of quirky photo related ideas too. I will be making him a "camera" for his cake!

    Thanks again for the suggestions.
  • My OH is also obsessed with photography having just got his DSLR. How about a tripod? I bought him one from Amazon and he uses it a lot. There are a lot of photography magazines that you could look at and he has just bought a 'Fish eye lens' for it which apparently is amazing (his words, not mine)

sorry, can't add much to what's already been suggested. How about some home made IOU vouchers for maybe a trip to your favourite place for him to take pics or maybe even a private photoshoot in your own home ;)

How about a Giottos Rocket blower, perfect for cleaning the lens or sensor.

Do you have any clubcard vouchers? I have just got an annual subscription for my OH for fathers day for £13 in clubcard vouchers, might be an idea,

Book wise if he will sit and read books to better himself I can recommend the Tom Ang books (amazon?)

I also agree with the blower, although don't pay a lot for one, my OH paid £4 I think for his and it is fab! doesn't have to be a specific make.

Also how about a lens pen? My OH got his from canada but we have since bought one from this seller on ebay they are really worth their money!

    Thanks for all the ideas.

In the end my plans went out the window as our youngest had chicken pox so I did not go out for a week, then our dog was ill & ended up being put to sleep the day before OH's birthday :( I did not even manage to get OH a card on time!

I had something non photography in the house already which I gave him & he is going to book himself on a course which he wants to go on.

I will however keep these idea's in mind for Fathers day from our LO's.

So sorry to hear about your dog ((hugs)) but having just seen this thread one thing that you could surprise him with at some point could be one of these

    GorillapodSLRZoom_white.jpg

An SLR GorillaPod. Worth shopping around for, lots of retailers do them.

  • if you get him a memory card make sure you go for the fastest speed card you can afford....and what about a battery pack for his camera? it saves changing the batterys whe out and about. I love mine :)
