It depends in the form it is held. Kruggerands are as are UK coins issued prior to Victoria as they aren't 'money' for the purposes of tax.
Most UK issues gold coins from 1837 onwards are considered to be currency and CGT isn't payable on British/UK (unsure of the precise definition) currency in any form.
Eg A gold Sovereign issued in the year of the Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II wouldn't attract CGT if you were lucky enough to make a large enough gain in capital on it. One issued in the year of the Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth I would.0 -
