Anyone done pet sitting for extra cash? I was thinking about chicken sitting! I am currently doing this for a friend but thought there is a bit of a call for it. So how do you go about insurance and getting listed etc?
Any help would be amazing.

I've done pet sitting in the past. It's best to shop round for public liability insurance for petsitters. Some people are more than happy to pay while others want you to look after their pets for £5 a day including walking their dogs!! Take into considertion travelling costs, if there's any petsitters in the area give them a quick call and ask what they charge, but don't let on you're thinking of setting up your own pet sitting service. Good luckI get paid to smell great :j0

my nephew has just set up a petsitting/ dog walking business and its starting to build up nicely.
It did take a little outlay to get going but not loads.
I got him this book and it is really fantastic. lots of little things we just wouldn't have thought of and some big ones too.
Will check with him where he got his insurance too and get back to you.

Also, get licensed by your local council as people will ask for recommendations - no-one around here is licensed. You'll get a lot more business if you are (costs around £200 a year for the licence).
Also, if going into peoples homes you have to have a CRB or something like that, to show you are trustworthy. Would you want just anyone coming into your home? I know I wouldn't. Different if it is for friends.
PL Insurance is an absolute must, you can ask a broker who specialises in business insurance. Check the website for the FSB: http://www.fsb.org.uk/0 -
I have recently joined Cats Protection as a pen sitter. You go to cat foster homes and sit with the cats and kittens to get them used to being with humans while they are waiting to be rehomed. You don't get paid but it is very good experience, and they can provide you with a reference which will help with future employment. I have also joined the Cinnamon Trust which provides a service for terminally ill and elderly people whereby you take their dogs for a walk, feed their pets or help with taking animals to the vet. Again it is voluntary but will provide excellent experience. I find it very encouraging to know there are so many compassionate people out there who are willing to help pet owners look after their animals while they are ill or housebound.
By the way the Cinnamon Trust also have a paid position where you visit pet-friendly hotels and nursing homes and write reviews on the facilities. Details are on their website.0 -
Best way is to go around or call and find how much is the usual service fee for pet sitting
I know this is something that can give you extra cash..and who knows build up a market for you,and make it full time business.
I'm not that familiar with the specifics of insurance but for some that is a Must.;)Mr. Mulla0
