Hi,
Yes i am new to this but am in need of some advice about an old debt.I recived a letter from a "DCA" who are looking for payment for a debt which they told me was over 6 years old.Am i right in saying that if its over 6 years old it is "statute Barred" and they cannot demand it. I really do not know what to do they are so demanding when you call they make you feel like a criminal any help would be great.

Its 6 years since you last paid towards the debt or written to acknowledge it is statute barred,

Hi,
IT has been over 10 yrs since anything was payed as i remarried and moved house so yes0 -
Don't talk to them on the phone. Just send the letter, then if they continue to chase you for money you can report them. If they call you then just refuse to answer their security questions.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

If your in Scotland it is 5 years and send the Scottish version, all the letters you need are in that post. If after they get the letter they still demand payment there is a follow up letter at the bottom of that post - "post not the whole topic"
If the debt is however a contract under seal, i.e. mortgage then they have 12 years to collect the debt but i doubt that will be your case, not often big debts like that get left unchased..Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
