Can my company take away my company car??

For 8000 miles a year, it isn't worth it to the company to provide a company car; which is probably why they are removing it.0

An ex colleague of mine was asked to return his company car due to reduced mileage but the union rep negotiated to get him an essential car user allowance which was paid each month as well as his mileage claims. Instead of buying/leasing a car he bought a £500 car every 6 months - he said it made more financial sense as the allowance more than covered the car purchases and business insurance and he either sold it at end of 6 months (for almost same price as he bought it) or got £150 scrap value but at least he had a car that he could use at weekends and evenings too.:j:T Total Prize Value 2012 - £1835 :T:j
:AThanx to all the good people that post comps (and answers!):A

If a field sales rep has their car withdrawn then I think it is time to look for another job.
Something does not sound to healthy at your current employers.
What's next? No company mobile? You can use payphones.......!0 -

If they were a field sales rep, then they'd be doing more than 8000 miles a year.0 -

Nope. The job isn't a Field Sales rep in the first place. It's only you that mentioned it.0 -

Well 8000 miles isn't so much "field" sales mileage as "medium sized windowbox" sales mileage. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

LOL!
Like it. :rotfl:0 -
£1200 a year would pay for tax, insurance and servicing of your own car to commute to your place of work, and I presume you'll have use of a pool car for all business trips?
I don't think you can ask for compensation for having to pay your own petrol to and from work.
£1200 a year would not even cover the interest on £20,000 to buy a new car nevermind the depreciation, fuel, maintenance etc.
The actual benefit is way over £1200, perhaps 500% as much.0
