Lowell Financial (DCA) possible Sky debt?

Hi guys,
Althought not really a DFW, I wondered who might be able to help with this...
First of all I've read the thread on a similar topic and although I don't have all the details yet I'd be interested to hear how you think we stand.
Background:
OK, my partner left her boyfriend in March 2003 and moved house from Birmingham up to live with me. When she was with her ex they had a joint bank account with LTSB and as soon as they'd split up she went to the bank to have her name removed from the account. One of things that came out of the account was their Sky subscription although when she moved she didn't phone SKy to cancel
LTSB needed to get her ex's signiture to authorise her name being taken off the account but he wasn't complient so the account stayed open and my partner opened a new current account. Last year she enquired in branch about the old joint account, LTSB said there was no money in it and there had been no activity in it for months so she was allowed to close it down?!
Current:
Yesterday she got a letter from Lowell Financial with her old address on saying that they had reason to believe she used to live at this address and they had a matter to discuss with her. We've not phoned the number so are unsure if it's an issue with the old Sky sub or even the amount concerned but from reading on the web it seems that this is who they usually use to chase old debts.
Assuming it is an old debt from Sky and they continue to send letters (we will not phone them as it confirms that my partner is who they think she is) where does she stand considering the monthly payment was taken from a joint account that is now closed and the service was used without her permission after she left her ex?
Nothing is showing up from Sky on either of her credit reports and she has no problem getting credit - do we just ignore it for the time being?
I have read the messages about not admitting to the debt or making any payments until we have everything sorted, but what can we do to to clear this up amicably but without paying up for a debt that is not really her fault (alright, I know she should have cancelled all accounts in her name as soon as she left, but it wasn't the best of break ups and I'm sure you appreciate there were other things on her mind!)
Thanks in anticipation of your help,
Alex

Anyone got any advice on this, got a second letter through yesterday - still not saying why they are trying to contact my partner and we still haven't phoned; do you think we should?
Also, anyone know what the deal is if it came from a joint account without my partner's knowledge?0 -
Mmm.. not sure but ..
Was the subscription in her or the ex's name? If his - she should phone them up and confirm in writing that she has nothing to do with the subscription and request they stop contacting you about his debt.0
