hello,
I have a debt with egg card which I have an arrangement with to pay £1 token payment a month due to current financial circumstances. I have maintained the payment but today received a letter from aktiv kapital saying they have purchased the debt from egg and to call them to make an arrangement to pay the balance.
could somone help as to what to do, do i ring them?
thank you, in advance.

Debt collection agency. No do not ring them.
Either write to them to offer the same £1 token payment (you might need to include details of why you can only afford this or an income & expenditure again).
Or if they haven't provided any proof that they have bought the debt (a notice of assignment) then you could start by sending the prove it letter and wait for proof before starting repayments.

I have a similar letter but all debts that I did have have been clear for over 2 years now. I have read quite a lot of the other thread about aktiv kapital and will be sending the recommended letters but I am uneasy about the £1 token payment - does this not mean that you are acknowledging the debt. Also wondering if anyone has any experience of ignoring these letters. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Start with the prove it letter lyndy (as in post #2 above). Don't make any token payments until they have proved you owe the money.
You could ignore it but there is a chance that you could end up with a CCJ if you do owe it and they decide to take you to court.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks Tixy. I was kind of hoping that they were so shady that they just took the chance that some people would pay and not take things further if you didn't but better to write a letter than to end up with a CCJ!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Might not be your debt - or they might not have proof of it so you still may not need to pay.
I know some people do ignore them but that always leaves open the possibility you could get a CCJ without knowing about it/having the chance to defend. I can't personally recall anyone having been taken to court by AK but thats not to say that they don't.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
