On 1st April 2010, the cost of an NHS prescription was reduced to £3.00 per item. The reduced Scottish prescription charge will apply only to Scottish prescriptions dispensed in Scotland.

Well I would certainly question it as for one thing you have been told basic salary is based on sales and for another if they are trying to say that you need a hefty cost of living rise for living in England they need to quantify it.

I live in England, but I sure as hell would need more money to live in Edinburgh to the same standard. England has vastly varying average salaries across the country and even London weighting doesn't amount to £10k for most jobs. There is a lot more to England than the South of the country and if someone is living anywhere like the Midlands and higher up away from big cities like Leeds, Manchester they will not have a higher cost of living than equivalent areas in Scotland.

Why is location an issue. Employers are free to negotiate whatever salary they want to pay with their employee (subject to anti-discrimination laws). If the OP is being paid £10k less, it is due to one of two key reasons. Either the employer feels he or she is worth £10k less, or the OP doesnt have the gumption (or leverage) to negotiate a higher salary.
