Green And Cheap Loft Conversion?

HI Guys
I am due to have a loft conversion soon as we need a new room in our ageing 1901 semi. BUT whilst I want (need) to keep the costs down, I also want to do it in the greenest way possible. Does anyone have hints or tips for me? I have a Normal builder lined up, and I know if i was to suggest anything too far out he might balk. I need help please, has anyone done a conversion recently>? What windows/insulation/materials would be best, and where's the cheapest pplace to get them? I'd love some advice please!
