MP3 Players

Hi, I'm after any advice re MP3 players. My sister is after one and she wants something decent, not just a 512mb cheapie. She was thinking about an IPOD. However I advised her that it may be worth looking into a good mobile with good MP3 player built in, on the thinking that it's better to carry only one gadget, rather than two and having heard that there are now a numbner of phones with good MP3 players inbuilt and with the capacity to add extra storage at a later date should she desire. I would appreciate any advice re the pro's & cons of a mobile MP3 player Vs. a stand alone MP3 player. ANy specific recommendations for mobiles with good MP3 players inbuilt would also be much appreciated,
Many Thanks

the sony erricson walkman mobile is apparently the best. with a memory card stick you can buy for extra storage - not always the cheapest but probably the best after all it is Sony!

The trouble with joint MP3/phones is the battery runs down really quickly if you use it as an MP3 player. IMO, separate units are better, and cheaper. (Plus if you lose/break one you've still got the other)
I just bought a 1 GB Sony MP3 player for £59.99 from the Argos running out stock (with the help of MSE'rs!):

Also the navigationon my phone mp3 is rubbish- you have to press so many buttons to get it to play anything and then it doesn't pause. Also a phone call loses your place. Making up playlists is incredibly time consuming and awkward0

I have the SE W810i and it has definetly made life easier. Instead of carrying around three different gadgets (mp3 player, digital camera and a phone) you can just carry one small phone which has all these functions. Many people would say battery life would get drained but i think phones are getting better at preserving the battery life. Of course a phone would be more expensive but look at the other functions it has and what other gadgets it could replace...Its better to close your mouth and appear stupid, than to open it and remove all doubt...:p0

I have the Sony Ericsson w800i walkman phone with the included 512MB memory card. I have over 100 songs on it and battery life is excellent, usually about 8-10 hours of constant use. Additional batterys can be purchased on Ebay for a fiver although I doubt you'll really need one, I never have. Navigation to the MP3 player is by the Walkman button, press it once and the player loads. Then press the play button and off you go. You can also still use other functions of the phone while listening to the Walkman side. I sold my flash memory mp3 player as the w800i was far easier to use.He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0
