I'm not an expert... but i believe it depends what fabric they are made off..
If the alternative is throwing them away I would wait for a sunny day and with warm warter and washing powder sponge them drown and see how they come up being left out flat in the sun to dry. (This also helps bleach them).
hope I migth have helped.julybride

thanks JB, I didnt know how to do them. I have a feeling that they are cotton, so with a bit of luck putting them in the bath & giving them a rinse might help? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? hiya
i have these, and i remove the strings and slats and put them through the wash annually. i guess it depends on their construction. if they have slats sewn into them i guess the bath or shower is the best idea, but the fabric itself should be ok in the machine if it can be dismantled

If you can't take the slats and string off then shove them in the bath, one at a time with some soda crystals and give them a good scrub, a good rinse and then out in the sun to dry.
I did that recently with bamboo blinds in the kitchen - they looked a bit manky but came up like new."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0
