Yes I went in last Sat hoping to pick up 3 for £10 and noticed that it's now 3 for £12. :( Not much of a bargain, when the range is v limited and you can easily pick up nicer wines for £3 to £4 in the likes of Netto or Home & Bargain, don't think I'll be bothering with Asda wine now.

    Me too.
A 20% price hike is a bit OTT.
We only used to shop at Asda cos of the 3 for £10 wines, (we get through a lot of wine each week :o) theres a Tesco and Sainsburys within a couple of miles of us so asda can get stuffed now.
    :p

So, any good wine deals anywhere then?
Netto had 'Gallo Family' cab-sauv on 3 for a tenner a couple of weekends ago. I hope they do that again,

Sainsburys are doing a deal 2 bottles for £7.00. Some of the wine is marked at £5.99 so you could say a few quid. Works out cheaper than the asda deal to £3.50 a bottle better than £4.00 I suppose.

My local is also 3 for £12 now but when I was in there at the weekend I managed to get 4 bottles for £11 due to looking closely at the rollback stickers on the shelves. Bottles that would normally be £5-6 were rollbacked to £2.50-3. There weren't many left and I can't imagine they'll be rollbacked for long at those prices!!

Iceland are doing 3 bottles for £10, and some others at 2 bottles for £8, but I didn't take any notice of what the wines were.

Tesco are doing 3 wines for £10 at the minute. Not a great selection, but I can reccomend the Paradise Hill red, not so long ago they were selling it at £9.99 a bottle, now £4.99 or 3 for £10.00

I don't think we should be surprised by the end of some of the 3 for £10 deals. Duty on wine went up in the last budget and VAT went back to 17.5% in January (the temporary VAT drop canceled out the earlier duty rise). £10 is a psychological price point so they've probably held off the increase longer than they should resulting in the "jump" by £2.

If you include VAT, duty, shipping and the cost of the bottle at 3 for £10 there is almost nothing left for the wine, probably under 50p a bottle. Some supermarkets also do case discounts, i.e. Sainsburys were recently doing 6 bottles for £19. I can't see how the suppliers or the retailer are making any margin on that, it's bordering on a loss leader.

3 for £12 may only be a £2 price rise but it probably means they can double the amount spent on the actual wine in the bottles. £4 a bottle is actually fantastic value given current duty levels.

I just wanted to add some perspective...we should be amazed they can retail drinkable wine so cheaply these days.

In other words back to its normal price and not a ramped up one for a few weeks prior to an offer

Just a big con these supermarkets

Didn't have my usual Blossom Hill 3 for £12 Californian in Asda today BUT did have it in Lidl at 3 for £9.99:T:T:T so bought a few boxes.

P.S. Thought it was a bit rich to hear Mr Leahy (sp?) from Tesco telling government to introduce minimum booze prices to prevent binge drinking. Surely a bit of self interest here?
