Internet Explorer 8 Maximising windows

I have been using IE8 for a while, but suddenly windows have started opening without filling screen, about 2" shorter than they should be. I think this has started following an update.
Have tried right-clicking IE8 icon, choosing Run, Maximise; shift and clicking top right-hand square; tried opening new window from link in previous page. Tried Google and it seems this is a common problem and nothing seems to work. I always stretch the page before closing, rather than choosing 'maximise' button.
Please don't suggest using Firefox or other browsers, though I might be tempted ............
Can anyone suggest any way to ensure that all windows open maximised?
Thank you

Right click on the Internet Explorer 8 Icon(in the Start Bar) and click properties. Click the down arrow next to Run to select maximized. Be sure and click apply to save the change you have just made. Your IE 8 screen will now be automatically maximized when you open it.0

Thanks for your reply.
Had changed IE8 shortcut properties in desktop icon to 'maximised', but it wasn't showing in IE8 in the start bar. Have amended and will try.
