<< Please help me with a week @ Dominican Republic - end of October >>

Having spent some time on TripAdvisor my Wife and I (+baby) want to go to the Iberostar Costa Dorada in the Dominican Republic for a week or 10 days departing between 29th October - 1st November, from a northern airport.
Best price I can get on a package deal is with Thomson departing 1st November from Manchester or Birmingham £1398.00 (including £100 discount code).
Various hotel only web-sites have the hotel at £700 approx for 10 days so with a good deal on a flight we wouldn't mind arranging our own transfers.
I can't seem to find any that I would describe as reasonable ...
Many thanks for your help.
Foxy.

What will you do about Malaria medication for the baby?
  • Good point - he's 18 months old so not sure whether he will need it ??
My wife and I haven't bothered with it in the past ...

i went to the south of the island about 5 years ago, juan dolio i believe, lovely place but it is a 3rd world country, sanitation and hygene standards were worse than poor, i hear the north of the island is more modern, i dont want to discourage you in any way from your holiday but i would not take any baby of mine to the south, everyone apart from the locals had a permanent upset stomach for the duration, two hours before the departure transfer coach arrived people were waiting for it, couldnt get out quick enough, also medical facilities where we went were completely non existant, there was a chemist/shack in the local village where everyone went to for there medication, not a doctor, nurse, hospital or prescription in site, we did see a prostitute get a public beating from a policeman, a dog dragged into a resteraunt by its back legs, a guy who had been stabbed lying in the road for half an hour, the police turned up, waved there shotgun out of the window and shouted at the locals, they ran off, came back in a datsun estate with no windows or exhaust system, launched him into the back and drove off down the road at breakneck speed, nearly forgot the prostitutes who approached me on the beach every night whilst i was with my fiance' and i quote
"dominican lady? you like licky licky"
oh what an adventure that holiday was, the cashpoint up the road had a 24hr armed guard posted to it, usually an old man with a deckchair, sub-machine gun(uzi9mm) and half bottle of 101rum , which is about 60percent proof and £3 a liter:rotfl:
  • Thanks - I think Playa Dorada is in the North - any prices please ????

We went to the iberostar Costa Dorada last year for my sisters wedding -it was fantastic. My daughter was 18 months old and doctor advised malaria syrup, paid £10 for a bottle and she wouldn't swallow it as it tasted foul!We ended up diguising a tablet in a spoonful of yoghurt (did the trick). We booked our trip with Direct holidays as they were by far the cheapest but i don't know if they do 10 day trips.Hope you get fixed with something soon as it is a fantastic place.

Thomascook look to have some good deals to this hotel in October at least. About 600-700pp which is much cheaper than the rest. Not sure if any other sites can compete or even teletextholidays?

    Hi all,

    Hi foxmeister,

A BIG WORD OF WARNING FOR ANYONE GOING TO THIS HOTEL IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

Have a look at the following thread to see what has just happened to me.
