we (2 adults, 2 kids) need to spend a night in London in October. Coming up the M27 where is a good place to leave the car overnight and catch a tube in? We thought of Heathrow, but parking charges ridiculous. We used to park in Kew but that was only for the day, any other ideas gratefully recieved. TIA.

I would sugest St Marys Cresecent near Osterley station, just off the A4

Also you can park anywhere in Hillingdon council for free as long as it isn't in the town centre...
i.e - Hayes, Hillingdon..they are about 7 miles from Heathrow..0 -
Or, closer in, there is free on-street parking around Ravenscourt Park and Stamford Brook stations, Hammersmith.0

Have you considered getting a train into London? If you can book that far in advance and are prepared to get a specific train it should be pretty cheap. Also you can get a family railcard for £20 which will save you 30% of adult fares and 60% of child fares for the whole family for a year which may be worthwhile.0

if they are coming up the M27 it implies they are coming from Bournemouth/Southampton/Portsmouth which are on the Megatrain routes to Waterloo also. Probably worth checking if any trains are suitable too https://www.megatrain.com0 -
I got quotes for both train (with a railcard, months in advance) and it was approx £70 for 2 adults and 2 kids; much to my horror so was National Express coaches (didn't they use to be cheap?)
Megabus is possible, but highly inconvenient as it leaves from Bournemouth Uni which has no parking nearby and no buses from my town.
Megatrain doesnt seem to run on Sundays.
My best bets are one of the parking locations suggested by MSErs above or maybe the Megabus.
Thanks for all your help everyone.0 -

Yes, I've parked round there quite a few times and taken the tube into Heathrow.0 -
You have to ask in the right way to find out train fares. They try not to tell you about their cheapest tickets. I looked on www.thetrainline.com and found "super advanced returns" available from Bournemouth to London in October for £41 with family railcard. Still not as cheap as I though it would be though. I think they've done away with a lot of their cheaper tickets, supposedly to make things simpler for the customer! lol!0

The Uni is just the starting point, check out http://www.megabus.com/uk/timetables/bournemouth_london.php for the full list of pickups and what times. It also collects passengers from Bournemouth Triangle or Ringwood where there is normally some cheap long stay parking0
