Please can someone help with advice???

Hi I just need some good advice I went on a dmp in december last year I pay £350.00 a month and I seem to just get by every month, I have had the interest frozen on my cards and my loan for now. The problem is that me and my partner had a joint account with natwest and single accounts, I was the one in the debt not my partner as I had a loan with natwest that I couldnt afford to repay hence going on the plan. I knew that I would have a bad mark put on my credit file but now my partner has a bad mark and can't even get a proper bank account, why is this?? My partner had nothing to do with my debt at all we always had enough money in the joint account that account wasnt a problem it was my single account that was the issue. Whats happened now is my partner now has a bad mark on their credit file surely there is a way to get this removed as its nothing to do with them at all. Please could someone help with this issue as this doesnt seem fair at all.

Thanks

Sounds like you must be financially associated on your credit files. Doe the joint account have an overdraft? Do you have any other joint financial products (such as a joint mortgage)? Your credit file is affected by anyone you are associated with.

Were you not advised by your DMP providers to close the joint account? you should always do this otherwise they can offset money you owe to them from the account in joint names.

Who are you doing your DMP with?

Hi Tixy yes we did have an overdraft that is now paid off in full, it was overdrawn £400 but had a limit of £1500. We don't have any other joint financial products. My dmp who is tcf debt solutions told me to close my account but never mentioned the joint one. Natwest then took the overdraft facility off my partners sole account and stopped her using her account. Surely someone can lift the bad mark off her file as it was all my fault and nothing to do with her. I just dont know where to turn

I don't think anything can be done to repair her credit rating. When you are financially linked items on one person's report affects the others.
Has she had a copy of her credit file? what exactly does it say? by a bad mark do you mean there is a default registered against the joint overdraft account on her file?

How much do you pay tcf to administer your DMP? are you aware that there are charities who would do this for you and not charge a monthly fee (which means more goes to your creditors and you therefore get debt free sooner).

How much are tcf charging you per month?

That money would be going to pay off your creditors not tcf's profits.

They really really should have warned you about the joint account, that is negligent.

You partner can get a new basic bank account if she needs to.

What matter now is to close that joint account ASAP.

Your GF may be able to put a notice of disassociation on her credit fileonce that is done.

Please just pray that they alow you to close the joint account rather than repeatedly raiding it to pay your loan with her money.

Hi Ras tcf are taking about £40 a month out of my £350 that I pay, I have just spoken to cccs and Im going to sort a plan out with them instead. Tcf never warned me about the joint account at all, the joint account is now paid off in full and was closed down yesterday. My partner is going to get a report of her credit file tonight online and hopefully we can sort out the bad mark against her name as the joint account was never in arrears or had nothing to do with my sole account that I had at natwest.
