Is this discrimination?

Hi, recently I took part in a large scale recruitment exercise and was shortlisted for interview. I was then told that I was successful at interview I was then asked for a second interview and it was explained to me that I was not being tested as I had already passed all the tests, the Team Leader was just interested in meeting me.. I did not get offered one of these. I had a feeling at the time that they considered me to be too old, but it is difficult to put my finger on.

They were being polite, but in short I would hazard a guess that you weren't suitable for the job, so they were letting you down gently.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

What kind of organisation is it? Do you know how it is funded?
I know people who run organisations which are funded by various agencies - the posts are funded by different organisations. Sometimes the funding for these posts come with stipulation that the recruitment process is done in a certain way. Could this be the case?
I'd see what the response to your telephone message was before persuing any possible claim

Thank you pinkshoes. I passed all the selection criteria so must be suitable for the job. My question relates to being unsuitable due to my age which amounts to discrimination doesn't it?

Companies don't tend to do this. They say no if it's a no. Good idea to call them and see what they say. Must be irritating not to know. Good luck. oh and try not to assume they are discriminating, they may have any number of reasons and the last thing you want is to go in with that thought, It might come across in what you are saying. They haven't said thats the case, they haven't given you any reason...Ask for one, see what they say.

Thanks Morty. Will wait to see what they say as advised and will try to keep an open mind until then.

Unfortinatly something like this is hard to prove if you do think it is discrimination. I would reccomend ringing them up and explaining how you feel and hopefully they will either state they 'lost' you from the pool and re-add you to it or explain why you was removed.

Explain to them that you believe you have a general right to know what you did wrong to not get the job.

Does anyone think I should reapply for this newly advertised post which I am suitable and qualified for?

Do you have a right to know why you didnt get a job?

    .

I think it is only common courtesy, if having gone through their recruitment exercise; detailed application forms with strict competencies, panel interview, success letter; second interview all taking lots of my time including time off work I would have a right to know.

If you can prove it, then potentially, but thats the tricky part. Print off one of these and send it to the company, then you will get an understanding of why they might have turned you down.
