Hi,
Sorry to be a pain, but is anyone able to help on the points raised in the thread?
I really do need to sort out a safe car and the longer I have my existing one, the more likely I'm going to have an accident!
Please help me understand if I can do what I'm proposing, and who I can get finance from. I especially want help to avoid all the sharks that I read about on these forums.Debts: Total - [STRIKE]£39,144.54[/STRIKE] £38,915.900 -
Can't you tell the dealer your partner is buying the car for you and if the car has to be in his name just tell the insurance you are the main driver/user.
We've just bought a new car, went for a pcp but we had far too much equity in our p/x.
To get the extra £300 off we had to take out Ford credit 4.9% (even with the interest it still meant money off). My husband went to sign the agreement but they asked if I could take the finance out (£2500 deferred for 12 months). I don't work, have no income of my own and no current account or credit card. So even though my husband is going to pay the balance, Ford wanted the finance in my name. But I think that is because the car is registered in my name, have you tried to buy a car with your partner as the registered keeper as long as you are honest with the insurance you are not fronting.

Everything was going to be in his name, it was only the insurance would be in mine.
It's reassuring to know that it is possible to do this - maybe it's not that they hate me after all!Debts: Total - [STRIKE]£39,144.54[/STRIKE] £38,915.900 -

The insurance may have to be in his name with you as the main driver, but before you buy ring a few insurance companies because the internet searches like compare the market, go compare and the like may not have the facility to tell them that your partner is the registered keeper but you are the main driver.
My auntie, who was disabled, bought a car and insured it for her son and daughter to drive even though she didn't drive herself. Rather like the motability scheme but she bought a used car as opposed to hiring a new car.
I'm sure you will find a way round it.

As an aside, the problem with your current car, If it starts accelerating, you could surely just put the clutch in? I think you already knew that, but better safe than sorry.0

Whether your partner can drive or not shouldn't make any difference when buying a car. I've never been asked if I had a license when I've bought a car. Surely all you partner has to say is that he's buying the car as a gift but still shouldn't have to explain himself. I wouldn't think you'd need a full license or any license for that matter to be just the registered keeper of the car.0
