I've also asked this before - does anyone know? I've stopped entering them as don't want to risk wasting postage on an invalid entry. I've got this week's TV Choice. It actually says
BY TEXT 'Text CHO21 followed by your answer, name, door number and postcode to ....'
BY POST 'write your answers to our competitions (you can enter as many as you want)) along with your name and adress on the coupon (left) and send it to ....'
SO, no clearer on the text entries (although it does say 'answer' not 'answers') but looks as though postal entry is coupon only.

ETA Just found a note in the T&Cs saying no purchase necessary - you can get a free entry coupon by sending a 1st class stamp to tvchoice, Academic House, 24-28 Oval Road, London, NW1 7DT. But at 40p it'd be cheaper to buy the mag!

am not 100% sure but i would agree with you that if you just put the letter they wouldnt know which comp it is for so i would put the letter and answer (b the beatles)
