I soak them over night.
Boil them in some water for ten minutes and then put them in a SC with some seasoning. Last time I used lemon juice and rind, garlic, some herbs like rosemary/thyme, sage and some salt and pepper. You can then cook them on high for an hour or so until tender or on low for for about 6-8 hours.
adding this type of flavour gives the chickpeas a great subtle flavour, so you can then use them in anything.
