since i last wrote my son as applied for 6 more jobs, got interviews and is still plugging away. still no feed back from the companies he has had interviews with though. it is so disheartening for the youngsters nowadays they are built up from school to work hard for what they want to do then get let down.

If he's getting interviews but not jobs, it could be the way he's presenting himself at interview. Could you do some mock interviews with him or make an appointment with Connexions for him to discuss interview techniques?

I do some times read these posts and laugh! I am advertising a painting and decorating apprenticeship and havent had any applicants!
    Is your son registered with
    www.apprenticeships.org.uk

I head parents and young people moan all the time time about there being no jobs available for young people, but my job involves speaking to employers about apprenticeship and advertising apprenticeship vacancies. i have had so many vacancies over the past 12 months where we have had hardly any applicants and my area has an average unemployment rate for young people.

Many of them dont think there are any jobs avilable so dont bother looking, most of them send in applications that are not complete, full of mistakes, scribbles or have had no care or attention put in to them.

The few young people that do get the jobs, take time on their application forms, have put in effort to fill in any employment gaps with voluntering work, further education, evening classes or team activities.

To me and the employers that we work with we need to see the young people showing some initative, this is what makes them stand out from the crowd.

I cant imagine not working for two years because I couldnt find the job I wanted, I took any job I could in order to be able to earn a wage and build my skills. Its not like I left school and walked in to the job i wanted either, I had to work up to it, which a lot of people just dont seem to understand these days.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.
