Loan company have lost my acount!

I have another thread somewhere on here which I'll remove in a moment as I realise I haven't quite asked what I meant to ask!

We have a loan with Welcome Finance, who over the last 2 years have ignored our pleas for a copy of our loan agreement. They also don't acknowledge our change of address... we haven't even got a copy of our account number.

I contacted them via the website and threatened to cancel the direct debit if I didn't receive a response. Well, blow me, I got a response today, but it wasn't from Welcome, it was from some company called Cattles. Their response was very vague and did not answer any questions, they said something about being unable to deal with non-admin queries (got no idea what they mean by that) and it seems they were fishing for details rather than willing to provide any.

Never hearing of this company, I researched them. I see they are no longer backed by the FSA and have serious financial trouble.

I'm under the impression they have lost our account details, judging by the amount of info they're requesting from me. What can I do in this case? I really need a balance of account (which they're unable to supply for some strange reason) and I need to see how long we took repayments over because we can't remember if it's 4 or 5 years.

Any suggestions? Got no problem in paying this but I do have a problem if we're paying and they have no account details to put our repayments against...

Check out the direct debit reference number with your bank - probably starts with a few letters and then a number, in some cases this may be your account number. Also, check with experian / equifax to see if the account is on your credit file - this would alos give you a rough idea of the balance.

We've actually been living abroad for just over a year now so I'm not sure how our credit report would be traceable for anything we've paid after we moved. I've never tried to check our credit reports before but doesn't it go by address? And if so, they probably don't keep records for foreign addresses?
