Taking the big step to get out of debt

I've posted this in my debt free diary, but thought it may inspire some people who don't read them, so here it is:
I've spoken to my parents and they'd agreed I can move home to get out of debt. We've agreed on an amount I can pay them to cover basic food and household bills I may affect. I should be able to clear off 90% or more of my debts for February next year now.
Going home for 8 months will be hard, but I think it'll go by pretty quickly and I'll be really really pleased by the end of it. As I'll be beginning my debt free life.

Hi Andy
Good luck with this. I did (briefly) consider this myself but felt it wasn't right for me (as I owned my own home), but I know LeeSouthEast did it this way and got debt free really quickly (in less than a year I think).
I'm sure it will be hard going back and not having your own space but with a timescale of 8months at least you know its not for too long.
Hope it goes well.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
thanks Tixy, I've moved home before, but never really used it to my advantage to clear my debts.
I get on fine with my parents and have plenty of things to keep occupied while I'm living there.
I've also spoken to my girlfriend about it, and she thinks it's a great idea, she's very sensible with money (owns her own home, paid cash for her car) and says that the only chance we have of a long term future is for me to sort my finances out, cause she wouldn't feel secure living with someone with debts, let alone thinking about starting a family with them. So there you go, big motivation right there to make this work.
Hopefully in less than a year from now I'll go from DFW t mortgage free wannabe!Bank Loans: [STRIKE]£25000[/STRIKE] £0- Barclay Card 14%: [STRIKE]£2500[/STRIKE] £0- Student Loan: [STRIKE]£12,500[/STRIKE] £0
