Sorry yet another question is baking soda the same as bicarb. Fancy doing the ginger cake recipe for the BM that is on the index, but it lists baking powder and baking soda.

Yep, baking soda is the usual American term for bicarbonate of soda/sodium bicarbonate or bicarb as we like to call it0
