Shop with good camera selection?

Hey all,
My dad's birthday is approaching and he has decided he would like a digital camera - more towards the compact end rather than DSLR, though I think the compacts may all now be too small and light for him.

So I want to take him to a shop where we can touch and feel the cameras before we make any decisions.

I know of Jessops in Belfast city centre. Does anyone know of anywhere that would have a better or larger selection of cameras?

We in the Downpatrick area, so Belfast/Lisburn/Bangor/Newry are within (sensible) range.....

Many thanks for your help.

There is only a Jessops in Newry - and quite a small one compared to the big one in Belfast. Hopefully that will help you narrow your search down a bit.

Harvey Norman carries a decent range in-store but like everything, try them out instore & then when you've found what you want, price around on the net......

There is a decent camera shop on Boucher Road (at the corner of Tates Avenue) called Calumet

You could try AJM Photography on the Newtownards Road, I think they're an independant so you should get good service.

Black & Lizars on Wellington Place in Belfast carry a good range of camera's. I always have a nosy at the window when I am walking past.

Don't rule out Tesco & Sainsbury, sometimes have good offers.

E H Electrical on Woodtsock Road have good offers on Panasonic cameras at the moment, saw them in the window on Friday. Very user friendly cameras with great results.

Aso with Jessops, you can shop on their website and use collect at store to get advantage of better prices than in store - (also works with Currys)

Thank you for all the replies. These help a lot.
It's really for us to go have a look at the cameras and see which ones are most comfortable for my Dad to use; size/weight. Then I can do some proper research on them (including where is the cheapest to buy :-) )

Its worth ensuring he gets the camera he needs, not just the one that they want to sell you. My mother in law needs a big screen for her camera and on screen controls, whereas I like fiddly little settings for the fun of it. Echoing BigAL94, Panasonic make a good range of cameras, and if you can get one cheap there's plenty of lenses for their mid range ones available, though their lens release cable is proprietary.
