Urgent Advice Needed

Hello,
I was after some advise on an old default on my file.
My boyfriend and I are hopinh to apply for a mortgage in October but having checked my credit file I have noticed a default on there for a credit card which I entered into a DMP with back in 2004. I entered into this DMP with 2 credit cards and one loan - the loand and one credit card had arrangements to pay on my file and have subsequently fallen off my file this year being the six year mark. However, the other credit card (nationwide) is showing the defualt being put on my file in 2007 - which I dispute as surely it should have gone on in 2004 with the Arrangements to pay. I have contacted the credit agency who have been very helpful and contacted nationwide for me but nationwide have informed them that the info they hold is correct - Credit Expert have now advised me to contact N/W directly. When I did this they said that they had no record of me being a customer!!!! If this is the case surely a default shoudln't be there then!!! I wanted to know any advise as to what next steps I should take in trying to resolve this issue as I really do not want this to affect our chances of being approved for a mortgage later in the year - please help!!!
Thanks

Under OFT guidelines they have 6 months to place the default notice.
Since NW hold no record on your (although they must keep it for 6 years), there are 2 things to do.
1) Write to nationwide, ringing a call centre only gets you so far, writing to them gives the offline teams a chance to do some digging into records.
2) If NW refuse contact the ICO and complain under data protection rules the information placed is inaccurate and in breach of OFT guidelines - http://www.ico.gov.uk/complaints/data_protection.aspx
OFT would back you up on this so getting a letter from them may help before going to the ICO.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Thanks so much for this, -sorry to be dense but can you just explain who OFT and ICO are - thanks once again - I really appreciate your help
