No notification of discharge?

Hi everyone,
When I went bankrupt in January 2010, the OR told me that I will not be notify in writing of my discharge - after 12 months I will be discharge automatically. How do I be sure that I am discharged after 12 months? Does this means there is no chance of an early discharge in my case?
The other questions I have is that I was told my bankruptcy will be on credit file for 6 years - but I read this forum and seen a lot of you talking about credit file clean up - can anyone explain to me what does this mean? Does this me once I done the 'file clean up' no one will know that i have been bankrupt before?
Please advice.
many thanks.

You may get early discharge, but you will get automatic discharge after 12 months, assuming you co-operate fully.
In Scotland, the AIB provides a certificate but you have to pay £10 for it, I'm not sure how it works in England/Wales, I think it's via the court and costs a lot more.
Cleaning up the credit file simply means ensuring that the entries on it are correct and have been updated to relfect the fact that you have been discharged. For example, debts should be shown as satisfied or settled and show the default date as the date of bankruptcy. The debts, along with the Bankruptcy will stay on your credit file for 6 years, therefore clean up is important to ensure that they disappear 6 years from the date you became bankrupt. Your bankruptcy will remain on public record FOREVER, and you will always have to be honest if asked if you have been bankrupt on a form for a mortage for example.
See the stick in this forum for more details on cleanup, hopefully someone will come along and advise about certificates in England/WalesDogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0 -
hi there
in England you can check when you are discharged on the insolvency register
http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/eiir/IIRMasterPage.asp it will only stay on this site for 3 months so be sure to print it off. you need to click into your name for it to say discharged as the top bit may still say bankrupt
the OR doesn't write to you to inform you of discharge, but you can get a certificate from the courts at a cost. sorry i can't remember how much but it is more than £10, normally the printed off version from the insolvency website is enough. you could also ask the OR to drop you a line confirming discharge0 -

England the "official" court discharge cert is around £60 or free in some cases on certain benefits
AIB charge around £10 (ish) for a letter confirming discharge....you could search their online register (similar to what confuzzled suggested) BUT they'll charge you around £17 for the privaledgeWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0
