Help needed - Grandparents Hamper

Good Afternoon everyone.
Am looking for some inspiration for what I can buy/make to go in a hamper style gift for my parents, who are soon to be first time Grandparents when our little bundle arrives sometime in June.
My mum has already seen a treat tin mug gift in Mothercare that she loves, and there is matching Grandma and Grandad ones so they'll be going in there, but at £6.50 each, I'm looking for some cheaper fillers to go alongside these...
I'm happy to try my hand at making something, although my willingness often overpowers actual ability. I dont sew, or knit, and cash is really tight.....
I'd really like to include things they can keep as well as enjoy soonish, but dont really want to fill it with "carp" that has no purpose. They've pretty much bought everything for us as we're really struggling so I just want to show them how much it means to me, my husband and baby :A
Thanks in advance....
P.S I've probably got two weeks of time to get it done. After that I dont think I'll be able to physically move! :rotfl:

How about a photo album so that they can update it with all the photos of LO when they arrive. You could start it off with your scan photo?
On a similar theme, can you get a card ready decorated (or decorate one yourself), but with space say for a baby handprint? would also work if you got a little photo frame ready to be "autographed" by the LO"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
Thanks, thats a good idea.
They've already got copies of all our scan photos, and I did see in Asda living a baby photo album which would be nice. So next time Im there will pick one of those up....Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
Hi CAFC
What a lovely idea.
What about a home made card with the babys footprint on , cheap to do but means a lot.
I initally thought of the footprint / handprint kits that you can get but im not sure how well they actually turn out.0 -
Thanks hun....
Thats a good idea for when he's actually here.
I need to think of some things to put in it that dont really require baby's input right now LOL so that I actually get the majority of it done before labour. Otherwise I can see it being something that falls by the wayside....
They'll be here for around 2 weeks at baby's due date and then travelling back, and they're 300 miles away so I kinda want it done to give to them when they are here!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
When I became a grandparent 2 years ago, my son and d.i.l. gave me a Grandparents Journal. A sort of "Family Tree" that the grandparent fills in about their side of the family.
It's a lovely gift and the grandparent hands it back to the child when he/she is older.
I think you can get them fom most bookshops.0 -
How about a couple of little bottles of champers to wet the babies head with i think they are a couple of pounds each in tesco :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Good plan batman.....
Although might go with wine.... i dont think my parents are that hot on champagne.
So far I'm thinking
Treat Tin with mug
Baby photo album
Small bottle of wine
A "I love Grandma/Grandad" keyring
Also saw in cheap bookshop a jokey book about being a grandparent, cant remember the name, but might go for that.....
I guess given that Im buying them a treat tin, I should buy some treats. What are traditional grandparent sweets?Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
humbug !!!!!
seriously though, I guess "traditional" grandparents sweeties are humbugs, cough mixture, winter mixture, mint imperials, fudge. Do they like that sort of thing though?!"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
fudge would be a winner for my dad definitely....
although my mum has a soft spot for jelly tots xxWealth is not measured by currency0 -
Jelly babies are more appropriate lol0
