I bought a reduced price duck crown last night in tesco, has to be used today... Can i put crown in the slow cooker and does anyone know how long it would take? No mention of duck in my slow cooker manual and it is only the crown, not a whole duck.
If it was breasts I would cook it with apple sauce and orange juice for flavour... will this work with the crown?

Hi Athravan,
I've never cooked duck in the slow cooker, but I had a look on google and there are plenty of recipes so it should be fine. Those recipes give times ranging from six to eight hours.
The apple sauce and orange juice should work just as well with the duck crown as it would with duck breasts. My favourite sauce with duck is made with morello cherry jam and any good red wine. Combine the two in a saucepan (1 part jam to three parts wine) bring to the boil and then reduce over a lowish heat, then use a fine sieve to strain it. You don't have to strain it, I just prefer it that way.
If you do slow cook it would you come back and tell us how you get on.....I'd be really interested to know if it works.

I personally would always roast a duck on a rack - they're incredibly greasy and if you're not careful, you'll end up with a crockful of oil.The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

Does the crown have skin on ? If it does and you intend to leave it on I would not cook it in a slow cooker. It will be very greasy as Wigginsmum says. You need the skin to be crisp for it to be appetising imo;)0
