debt collectors what are my rights?

Hey peeps.
I'm not sure if I'm posting in correct place, please feel free to move post if I am.
Here's the thing, i had an account with the RBS a few years ago but got so sick of charges and sick of them not listening to my requests when handling my account.
I had a student account at that time and it was a a current plus account with an overdraft which I did try not to use as more charges would occur, however after university I found myself having to claim benefits for a short period, I made an appointment with my branch and paid back the overdraft, I also asked to be lowered to a basic account, for the time being as I felt I had to prioritise my finances at that time. and felt that £10 a month for something I didn't use was a waste of money at that time and was an unnecessary expense. All went well and thought it would be sorted out......I WAS SO WRONG THERE!
I was due to start a job about a month later and went to the bank only to find that only half my money was in at the time, I questioned RBS about this and they would not listen this time, so I emptied my account and closed it on the spot, and took my business elsewhere. I thought that would be the end of it I knew it was a Non-winning battle trying to get the money back so just admitted defeat.
About 6 months later I received a letter from a debt company demanding payment in full for the amount of £450, and the clients name was of course RBS, I called the debt company and demanded to know why on earth I owed this much, they told me to contact RBS which I did and they explained that they could not close my account due to a debt accumulating, she explained after i closed my account I still owed a months money to them for my current account plus and because i didn't have sufficient funds in my account a £35 charge occurred, please note RBS never once sent me any bank statements, letters nothing. They were also still charging me £10 for the 6 months also on top of that a £35 charge for being overdrawn. the rest are apparently "legal fees"
It gets worse I had to change my number as I was getting over 7-8 calls a day from a debt company really aggressive calls demanding the money I stood my ground and told them they were not getting a penny from me and that if they called me again I would send the police their way for harassment. But I received yet another letter today threatening to send debt collectors to my door. I am not scared but what are my rights in this case?

With regards to the bank charges, if the account still had a balance owing then it would not be closed and thus the charges would incur over time until paid. RBS have paper statements and paperless statements, due to paperless statements you may not have received a bill.
Im rather dubious why only 1/2 yoru money was in RBS did they explain this, what was the actual £35 fee about?
As to the DCA, they are not allowed to harass you, only demand payment. Without an appointment they should not visit, you can also revoke their rights to visit making any visits legally an act of trespassing. Phonecalls can be stopped under DPA too. here is a list of letters - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1837507Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Jonny, you have been sticking your head in the sand. The bit about half your money missing needs some sort of explanation. I have a feeling you know why, but if you don't, you should have found out why and resolved it. It looks like you had a bit of a paddy and left a debt, which is now catching you up. Your course of action now is dispute anything wrong and to settle what you oweHi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
