Help please!

I will try and cut a long story short! My partner is the NRP to twin boys age 17 (18 this year) One of the boys left school at 17 and got a full time job - when this happened the CSA payments for him stopped. We are also paying arrears and although the payment for him stopped we ended up paying more then we did for the 2 boys (thats another story). Anyway his son was sacked from his job and claimed benefits for a while and is now starting a full time hairdressing course.
Does this mean that we would need to start paying maintenance again for him? Any help very much appreciated! Thanks.

It depends on the level of the course and whether child benefit has been reinstated for him

I believe that hairdressing courses at Further Education College are deemed as 'qualifying education' therefore for Child Support purposes the NRP would be liable and child benefit also payable. You can ask CSA to do benefit check, but I'm sure this is qualifying education, so liability exists

If he claimed a benefit in his own right, he can not be a QC again as he is then considered an adult. Are you sure he got a benefit, very few stay at home 17 year olds would qualify?

The key is whether child benefit is being claimed for him.

He is doing a full time NVQ course for 2 years and then HND for a further year, starting in August. Does this mean we will be paying maintenance for the next 3 years? Thanks

Child benefit stopped for him 6 months ago. If he starts college in August will this be when it can be re-instated or can it be re-instated now? Thanks

CSA liability is until age 19 if CB is still payed (as it is paid in arrears it will be the payment after 19th birthday)

This is only an opinion but if the son got a full/time job and classed as an adult gets sacked then reverts back to being a child (for child maintenance purposes) because he is going to college...something doesnt seem right one minute an adult next a child, I always believed we start of as children and end up as adults???? I know what you are saying - I haven't a clue what the situation is by way of paying child maintenance again. I have done some research on the internet and not any further forward. The last resort would be to phone the CSA which is a road I would rather not go down. From past experiences I can't trust what they say anyway!
