zink recoveries?

Hi there
I have been getting phone calls from a DCA called zink recoveries.
They wont tell me what its about until I confirm my name, address and DOB, and having read loads on here I know not to do so.
The last call was this morning and I was told that it is a debt from an old address (they told me which address!!). And that if I didnt discuss this with them they would advise their client to take legal action.
Now I moved from that address in Dec 2005 and moved again in March 2009.
They said that they have been sending me letters for months but as I am no longer there I havent got them.
My questions are..

How did they get my new phone number but not know my new address?

If I do a credit search now will that help them to find me easier?

If they do take legal action at my old address and I cant reply can a ccj
or court order be granted without my knowledge?

hope some one can help
thanks

You need zinc's address and to send a prove it letter by registered post, demanding they provide written evidence of the debt.

WHat I think has happened is that they have got hold of your new phone number, but they are not confident tehy have the right person, hence the ID checks.

I agree, an address is so much easier to find than a phone number, in terms of tracing you anyway.

    http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/consumer_credit/oft664.pdf

    i. failing to investigate and/or provide details as appropriate, when a debt is
queried or disputed, possibly resulting in debtors being wrongly pursued
    j. requiring an individual to supply information to prove they are not the
debtor in question, for example, driving licences, passports, full name,
    date of birth, signatures

You do not have to provide proof for or against it, and as such i would refuse to answer their questions, if they don't stop ringing send a telephone harassment letter to them via recorded delivery but do not include a return address. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=23625447&postcount=8

They have just been on the phone again and they could not confirm their own address!!!!
I went through the DPA and gave slightly wrong answers...(seen it done on here somewhere)
apparently I didnt pass so they are checking the details and are phoning back.

Thanks for all the replies...I have been having a good look at the links posted.
They have called again today and I once again gave them false details and was told they were correct and was told what the call was about.
Apparently they are acting on behalf of GE Capital about a store card I used to have and that I owe £902 so what account would I like to pay it off with.
Now I have positively never had a store card so I told them this.
I got a very shirty reply saying that debts dont just appear from nowhere so denying it was a waste of time.
I asked them if they could tell me whether they had a signed credit agreement and what date I was supposed to have defaulted on the card.
This information apparently is not available but they would get onto their client to have a copy sent to me.
I then said that they cant send me anything as they dont have my address and that as the details I gave them was not right, under the DPA they should never have given me any information.
I was then told that they will send the information and they will call back to confirm a method of payment.
They dont seem to have a clue do they.

  • In June this year I received a letter from zinc collections demanding payment for a debt that I was supposed to have incurred over five years ago!. No details were given, when I phoned them in Glasgow, they assured me that they had the right person, etc. I have never dealt with the mail-order company they quoted, I told them to produce more details of goods purchased, exact date of purchase, it was supposed to be a pair of trousers, so I asked for the size and colour. To date I have not received any reply, I am not sure but I think it may have been one of those telephone scams.
