Hey wasnt sure where to post but i have seen some other thread asking questions so hopefully this is the right spot. Anyway as the topic says im looking for a all in one printer for my girlfriend because she is at uni and needs to print off alot of documents so im leaning towards the more expensive laser printer because it sounds like she will be printing alot of stuff but only black and white so i have found 2 printers i like and wondered if anyone with more knowledge on printers have any thoughts on these or better alternatives.

Firstly is the Epson Stylus SX215 i found on p.c world for £39.99 the theres the 10% off code i can use as well.

The second one is Samsung Scx-4300 All in one Mono Laser printer for £88.00 at ebuyer.com

Any recommendations?

Hello Dave, welcome to the MSE forums!

This might interest anyone who is considering a laser printer (buying guide):

If you are printing a lot of documents, I would go with the laser printer as it will be cheaper to run and more efficient in the long term, as inkjets are a drain on the ink and wallet. For that type of price range, the Samsung SCX-4300 seems like the only option available as a multifunction laser printer - Misco has it in stock at the same price, but eBuyer looks like it is offering free delivery and seems like a good deal.

    Go for the laser printer.

We switched to laser printing a few years ago now - though only in monochrome (colour lasers are available too, but cost quite a lot more to buy and run, and multifunction models are rare).

We hardly ever miss the colour facility of the 'normal' inkjet types - why print everything in colour when you don't need to?

But the most important factor is that the laser process is hugely more reliable than inkjets (maintenance is rare, and cartridges, toner units, are changed every few months or so, not every couple of weeks).

And the laser is much cheaper in consumables (esp if you buy cloned toner units, or fill your own). Ideal for student printing - I do a lot of writing work - so high volume, in monochrome is ideal for me.

    We've never looked back.

(If we need photos printed we get 'em done with those ubiquitous free print offers that are always available.)
