How long in employment?

I have a decent deposit for a flat but was recently made redundant so plan to buy is on hold for a bit.

I was wondering how long lenders would want me to have been in my job before they'll approve a mortgage. When I bought with my ex last year they wanted 3 months of payslips but we'd both been in jobs over 2 years so it wasn't really an issue. Would 3 months of employment be enough?

I have an interview next week for a job that would be pretty secure if I got it, so would want to start viewing asap. Need to get out from under my mum and dad's feet!

  • Varies by nature/status of the new job and the lender's own rules.

Can be six months and assurance of no probationary period (pretty much at the top of requirements) or as little as a month.
