The "Returning Officer" you see reading out the election results is usually the Chief Executive of the Local Authority relative to that constituency.
The R/O is also in charge of the organisation responsible for, er, organising things in the way we're now seeing in so many places tonight. . .
I know a few Returning Officers. The likely salary of those in the middle of tonight's disastrous mishandling will exceed £100,000 per annum.
Just a thought.
The returning officer is a seperate duty with a seperate fee which can be into 5 figures.0 -
