Handing in Notice

Since 18/05/09 I have been working a second p/t job with the sole intent of paying for a 'special' holiday this July.

I want to hand my notice in on 19/05/10 (so I'll have worked there for a year and a day) as the cut-off date for the last payday before we go on holiday is 19/06/10.

My question is if for some reason they tell me to go and not to work my months notice do they have to pay me my notice period?

Be carefull notice applies from the day after the day you give it.

What about holiday pay for the part time job, have you taken it?

What are your contractual notice periods(you and employer)

Why the year and a day?

With this plan in the background have you booked the time off?

Be carefull notice applies from the day after the day you give it. So I'd have to hand my notice in on 18/05/10 to leave on 19/06/10?

What about holiday pay for the part time job, have you taken it? Holiday year starts 1st April so haven't taken any of this years holiday. I work 15 hours a week and have 84 hours of holiday for the year - not sure how this works if you leave partway through the year.

What are your contractual notice periods(you and employer) There's nothing in my actual contract - I think there may be something in the employee handbook so will try to get hold of a copy.

Why the year and a day? No real significance - just the way it happened to fall with the payroll cutoff dates.

With this plan in the background have you booked the time off? Yes - we have to book our holidays in 2 blocks - summer holidays (apr-oct) have to be booked by the end of the previous feb and winter holidays (nov-feb (no holidays allowed in march)) have to be booked by the end of the previous september. So I had already been asked to book my holidays for this summer.

I think that about covers it!

Ok - I now have a copy of the handbook which states that I have to give 1 weeks notice so if I want my last working day to be Saturday 19th June is it right that I need to hand my notice in on Friday 11th June?

Also with holidays I get 84 hours for the year (I work 15 hours a week) I have worked out that I accrue 1.6 hours of holiday per week worked (84/52), by the date I leave I will have been there for 11 weeks of this holiday year so I think I should get paid 17.6 hours of holiday - is this right?

You don't have to finish on a payday.

When do you want the last day to be, I guess a bit before the actual holiday.

If you want the last day to be on a Sat you can give notice on the Sat before the week then starts from the Sun->Sat inc.

Holidays are 5.6 weeks, so for 15hr week you should get a minimum of 84hr.

How many holidays do full time workers get if it is more than 28(or 20+BH) then you should get more also.

The prorata for 11weeks 11*84/52 17.77, check the policy on how the company might calculate, if they are accruing hours they may do it by total hours worked which may give you a bit more depending which days you work/finish.

Thanks - it's not a payday I want to finish on - it's the payroll cutoff date to be paid at the end of June - any days I work past 19/6 I won't get paid for until 31/7 which is after our holiday.

I will hand my notice in on the Saturday and then work a full weeks notice.

We all (full-timers included) get the minimum holidays so 84 hours is right, I'm happy just to know that I should get paid about a weeks worth of holiday - I just wanted to be sure what approximate figures I should be looking at on my last payslip as they're not the best at paying you for everything they owe you without a fight!!

Handy to cover that CC bill on return.

Make sure your wages are in the bank and then tell them you are off
