£1 Ok! coupon - why not scannable?

Seems strange that this coupon from the weekend's papers doesn't scan at Tesco. It's quite unusual for them not to accept a mainstream coupon. Anyone got any theories?

The coupon scanned okay it's just that Tesco don't seem to be accepting it. My local self scan rejected mine even though the magazine is stocked.

It happen sometimes. I normally buy one to see if a particular coupon works - if they do I may buy more, otherwise I've only lost x pence. I may even buy the mag (if its a goodun)

I bought the mag to see if the coupon worked in Tescos it didn't the cashier put it through as a non scan coupon, i went to a cashier as always as a rule use the self scan but didn't want to alarm them by paying with a coupon as they have really tightened up.

I've had 2, from different days Expresses. Neither could be scanned at either Tesco or Asda despite their best efforts. They tried usual scanner, hand scanner, and inputting code. Wouldn't accept it. In end I have managed to get both accepted. or rather the sa has manually given me the value - one at Asda other with Tesco. :D
sa at Tesco said they have been unable to scan them all day.

Only a theory but, could the Express/ok somehow have got the coupon to only be accepted if you buy the mag ? I mean the Tesco/Asda coupons are only accepted at the Tesco/Asda till if you buy the specific item

Hopefully if there is enough complaints from customers and stores Express/OK might rectify the 'problem';)

It could be the small print on the coupon threatening legal action for fraudulent use that's spurred Tesco into action

Maybe, but all coupons state something similar (it's fraud by the retailer to obtain the money against the sale of any other item but big supermarkets get around this because they sell enough of said item to claim for all the coupons). It's not fraud by the customer, BTW, if they offer it as payment for sausages and the retailer accepts that offer of payment.

I also found this coupon didn't scan at Tesco but the CS girl put it thru' as a non-specific coupon when she checked with a supervisor. Glad I didn't buy loads of copies of the Express for the coupon.....could have ended up with lots left over as the expiry date was so short too.

Most reserve the right to refuse to reimburse if fraud is suspected. I don't remember seeing any others threatening legal action.

Hmmmm, you have a point there. I will have a look through my coupon stash tomorrow if I get a moment, before spending some of them at Tesco.
