If you're only using it for cooking then don't waste money buying extra virgin. I use the one in a big bottle from Lidl and that is perfect for everything I need it for.

Morrisons is fine for cooking. It comes in a plastic bottle. I would go for a nicer one if it's the main dressing though.

  • I buy Sainsburys or Tesco's own mild and light olive oil. It can be used for all frying and baking and doesn't have a strong olivey taste, which makes it good for baking too. Only get the own brand ones though as the Filippo Berrio and the like cost the earth!!!

I use the Tesco light and mild in my bread. It's lovely and light and doesn't leave an aftertaste.

Another reason for not buying extra vigin for frying with is that I believe it can't take the high temperatures the others can.

If you ever manage to get a 'posh' bottle of olive oil, keep the bottle and re-fill with a cheaper brand, looks nice in the kitchen and people won't think you're a cheap skate buying own brand oil.
