Bargain "Personal" car breakdown cover
djboss
We've just managed to get from Tesco, the maximum "Finest" level of Car Breakdown Cover for our 2 cars, or any car we're travelling in, for £62.
Tesco try to charge an additional £40 to cover an additional car, but If you check page 8 of the T's and C's of Tesco's (Green Flag ) Breakdown policy, you will see that the definition of "insured vehicle" is
"Insured Vehicle: any vehicle we have agreed to cover and any vehicle you or your spouse/
partner are travelling in, provided it complies with the vehicle specifications described in
General Condition 10. "
This effectively give a Personal Cover, not a vehicle specific cover, saving over £100 on a Green Flag, 2 person policy!
Tesco are looking at changing the wording on this, so act quickly.
If you have a policy already and paid an additional premium of £40, then I would consider contacting Tesco Finance to ask why, when without the additional premimium, you're already covered?

this isn't actually true you need to pay for personal cover if thats what you want, green flag covers the car/s that you pay for unless you pay for personal cover0

Theoretically, you're right, but when you read the T's and C's in the Tesco Policy Details (Green Flag only administer Tesco's Policy) there is a mistake, which has been acknowledged by Tesco Finance, which effectively gives a "personal" cover.
The mistake is here:
"Insured Vehicle: any vehicle we have agreed to cover and any vehicle you or your spouse/
partner are travelling in, provided it complies with the vehicle specifications described in
General Condition 10. "
I have had a protracted discussion with Tesco, resulting in them refunding my initial £63, sending me a £50 gift card for my inconvenience and them accepting that the wording is incorrect. As I originally posted, they are looking at changing the wording to rectify this mistake, but at the moment, the T's and C's are still incorrectly worded.

Tesco Finance are being particularly slow in rectifying their mistake... Take advantage of this whilst you can.0

and still Tesco are working with the same T's and T's... Grab it now, just in case.0

Thank you loads!
EDIT: djboss- where it says it covers any vehicle you or your spouse are travelling in, does the wording VEHICLE mean they've got to cover a motorcycle do you know?I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)
As of the last count I have cleared [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt.

The online option to buy only accepts payment by Mastercard or Visa Credit card. I have neither. I know you can buy breakdown cover at the checkout however so I will look into the T's&C's via that route tomorrow. The T's and C's are the same for online and counter purchases. I suggest you call after youve signed up to make them aware of your awareness of the error. If you have any issues, let me know and I'll give you an email address at their head office.
A quick look through the policy details shows no mention of motorcycle cover.0 -
You'd be better off with Autoaid, £37 for you and your spouse, in any car. Full cover including breakdown at home etc.
Been with them for years and used it a fair bit, would def recommend.0 -

I also really rate Autoaid. We tow a caravan and this is also covered for the £37 too - which is excellent - full cover too as standard. the only thing is if you have a claim you need the means to pay for it upfront (credit card is useful as long as you have one) then you send off a claim form for the amount and they settle within two weeks so you don't even need to actually pay the bill as the money is there in time.
We had a claim recently when hubby managed to discharge his diesel battery by leaving a light on in the car during a car boot and had to call them out for a flat battery on a bank holiday. No problem with the waiting time (about 40 mins - single male ina field - normally takes longer than that!) then no problem settling the claim quickly and efficiently.
Excellent service - win, win situation and a real bargain!
3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!
