Keep us updated on how it goes MD.

I'm a new MFW. I have just got the one house though. Going for it on 3 houses... Wow!! I'm not sure I'd have the necessary self discipline myself and be brave enough to take on the risk. I secretely wish I would though...
    All the best!

Thanks to all for your support,

The properties are in the north east, where you can still buy a house for less than £100k but not for much longer!!!

I'm not trying to be MF on all of them, just the one that I live in. I treat the others as a business and will only pay these down once my own mortgage is cleared!

I think that the other thing to remember with ex council houses and dhss tenants is that they don't tend to move evry six months as some tenants do so you may well find that if you keep the payers happy (ie the council) and the house is reasonable to live in then the tenants will be happy to stay.
(sorry if I'm wrong and you don't have council tenants).
DH and I have considered doing this and buying a fixer upper to let and trying to accumulate a portfolio but have decided that we will wait until our mortgage and debt is outweighed by our savings so that we can clear our home mortgage and afford to subsidise the othher mortgage. We do have the option of buying a cheap house on a grotty estate and letting it to council tenants but DH is not keen. I have to say I am kinda keen on this idea as the estate has been part of the sure start scheme for years now and is starting to see improvements in the areas around with a new park and gp surgery etc. Still not keen enough to put my money where my mouth is though!
