what to do until BR hearing?

sorry if this has been answered many times but the search on the forum isn't being much help.
I have no income and my OD/CC's are maxed out and so are considering BR. Just wondering if it takes 10 weeks to get a BR hearing what I should do about my bank, standing orders etc? shall I contact them now and inform them of my intentions, will they spend the next 10 weeks calling me constantly?

thanks!

    hi there and welcome
don't tell the banks/cc people that you intend to go br, they will just up the pressure to get some money out of you

have you taken advice from one of the debt charities? you will need to, so contact the national debtline, cccs or the cab

have you opened a basic bank account? it is more than likely that your current bank account will be closed once they hear of your br, unless it is a coop cashminder account or basic barclays account. if it's not one of these you should open one of these and get your direct debits etc transferred across.

if you have any other questions make sure you post :)

    good luck

thanks v much confused. luckily my bank and CC co's only have my mobile number so I can just not answer (is that the best thing to do?). if they can't get hold of me how long until they can up the ante and do something like send people to my house?

just trying to set up an appointment with the CAB now but obviously want as much info as possible before.

    thanks again.
  • will take a while before any kind of home vist is done and if it gets to that point just send them on there merry way, dont invite them in just remind them they have no powers of authority.

As confused said one of the debt charities is the first port of call, from there you will ahve many questions im sure but lots of people here to answer them for you :)

Please contact one of the charities below, they will offer free and impartial advice. Please have as much info available when contacting them, ie amount of debt, creditors etc

Also this link to the Insolvency Service is useful!

just spoke to the CAB and the nationaldebtline and looks like BR is the best option. Was really good to get it off my chest, been carrying this issue round for a long time!

    thanks steve and dojo.

p.s. a little tongue in cheek but should I wear a suit when I go to court or should I try to look presentable but at the same time impoverished?

It will not matter greatly what you wear but at the same time I wouldn't go fronting a f*** the poll tax t-shirt either:D

Just parachuted in here but as I see you are new, (welcome btw) you will have much to do before the day in court!

    Smart/casual will do the trick!

    Hope this helps :)

Agree with dollparts, smart casual will suffice.

dam must rethink my outfit :D

suit for me but no tie its my every day wear anyway for work so feel comfortable like that.

Glad you gotten some advice sodor, it does feel better to be advised properly I know it did for me after speaking to the CCCS.

I would take a look at the insolvency site and familiarise yourself with the forms as they are longwinded and im sure will bring up more questions

    Sodor, welcome...

Getting an appointment at your local court may not take 10 weeks, telephone and book one now and then you will have a date to work toward,,,

    Good Luck

Ring the court and find out if they operate an appointment or walk-in system. I rang my local court today and they are looking at a week on Monday (17th May). I won't have the money by then but she said appointmets are around a fortnight from when you ring.
