My husband and I had our house repossessed two years ago and also lost our business. We were over thirty grand in debt and just did not now what to do for the best.
People kept advising us the best thing we could do was to go into bankruptcy, but to me that seem the easiest option.
We had a solicitor who was acting on behalf of the building society and they kept threathing us with various options and they wanted proof of what our new income was etc.
I got in touch with the National Debt Helpline and I have to say if it was not for them I dont think we could have got through the mess we were in. At first I was on the telephone every week asking them for advise. They sent me sample letters to send out along with income/outcome expenditure sheet.
What a difference these made when I sent them out to the debt agencies.
In a year we have managed to half our debt to just over fifteen thousand due to a lot of the debt agencies/building society agreeing to reduce our debt as long as we agree a monthly figure.
I understand that we still have a long way to go but I am feeling a lot positive and were I use to go home and not look forward to opening the post that dread has now gone.
If it was not for the National Debt Helpline I dont think I could have got through the past year.
I have learned not to bury your head in the sand and deal with each situation individually and promptly.
Finally never give up hope and there are plenty of people out there that can help you get throught the bad times.

Well done for seeking out the right help, all to often people ring up the wrong people and it makes things worse.
National debtline come highly recommended here - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2077631Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0
