Weetabix - which brand?

Normally buy ASDA Smartprice which I like. However, doing an online shop at Tesco this week and so was going to try Tescos own brand (though not the values one which I've heard isn't nice).

Has anyone tried both and is the Tesco one any nicer and worth the extra pennies?

Tried tesco own (not value) doesn't compare to Weetabix, lots of hard bits.
  • Sainsbury's own brand - tastes just the same :D

We buy both the Asda and Tesco smart price depending on where we do the main shop that week and haven't noticed much difference in taste. Even the very fussy 9 yr old eats them both. However, the Tesco version is a lot crumblier so you end up with what looks like hamster cage stuff But as the boy always has his microwaved with hot milk it doesn't matter much.
You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.

At uni, I always used to buy Asda Smartprice weetabix as it looks and tastes very similar to the branded Weetabix.

I also tried Tesco Value weetabix....yuk yuk yuk!. They're smaller in size, are a different shape (rectangular with square corners, rather than rectangular with rounded corners) and I didn't really like the taste.

Now when I got to Tesco, I buy Tesco own brand (not Value) and they taste the same as the Asda Smartprice ones to me. I also buy Morrisons own brand ones and, again, they taste the same to me.

After all I've just said about Tesco Value ones, I do buy them to make the OS-famous weetabix brownies with, as once all the ingredients have been mixed together, you can't tell the difference. (I do have to use five Tesco value weetabix rather than the four it specifies in the recipe though, since they are smaller in size compared to normal weetabix).

    :)

Yep - I am sure that the Asda Spartprice Weetabix are real Weetabix. I would love to see is any one could tell the difference!
  • It may be only in my mind but to me there is nothing to compare with Weetabix - own brands are just not the same!! I bought the new Weetabix Oatbix last week (look like weetabix but made with oats) - Yuck!!!
