ok, this sounds like a really stupid question, but ive just made some salt dough for the first time. my son and i want to bake it in the oven and then paint it, but what i want to know is... do i have to grease the baking sheet before i put the figures in the oven? sorry, that makes me sound right stupid!

Hi, a light greasing won't go amiss! I use a bit of the veg oil that I've used in the dough.
Once they're painted, a tip is to fully varnish them if you want to keep for any length of time. Otherwise, the salt in the dough tends to absorb moisture from the air, and has gone mouldy IME.

You should cook them low and long - some of the bits I've made before have taken around 9 hours to harden fully.

Oooer, hope I'm not jumping to conclusion here...............200F, not 200C.........that's about gas 1/4...........
Apologies if this isn't what you've done!
Additionally, if you've enjoyed this, have you tried salt dough? Bit like playdough, but lasts in an airtight container for ages. Will post the recipe if you'd like it.

An excuse to make something christmassy whilst amusing my little monster at the same time. I haven't made this stuff in years. Anyone care to post the recipe?
