Weekday Weddings

Just trying to gauge opinions on this before I go insane because we're getting nowhere!

We've found a venue that we really like, but we can only afford weekday prices. Would anyone actually come to a weekday wedding? I'd shoot for the Thursday so it's at least close to the weekend, but I'm not sure I'd actually be keen on going to someone else's reception on a Thursday night! It'd be ok for family and very close friends, but would people from work or more casual friends actually bother? Especially ones with a couple hour drive to get there.

Anybody been to/had a weekday wedding here? Thanks :)

i am getting married on a friday coz i couldn't get a weekend this year, and i WANT to be pregnant by nexy year. My sis got married on a friday and that was fine.
I am getting married in the school holiday, which means a lot of my friends with children won't be at work. My mum works in a school so won't be at work. It is in Df's 2 week shut down at work so lots of his friends wont be at work and a lot of my friends are nurses (so a weekend doesn't make a difference to them) If you want to do it on a weekday DO IT, if they come they were worth it if they don't they weren't

With a two hour drive I have to say it is doubtful anyone other than very close friends will come. Unless you are giving them enough notice and they can book the Friday off work. Imagine you get home from work at 6pm, have kids to see to and then get ready, and then a 2 hour drive, by the time you get there it would be time to come home. Is a Friday out of the question?

I'd be ok with a Friday, but can't do it unfortunately!

Unfortunately yes, we want to get married next year (so in theory is plenty of notice for people) but Fridays are both too expensive and all booked up between March and June anyway. None of the people two hours away have kids, but I wouldn't expect them to come knowing they either have to book a day off work or not drink and leave early.

I think it's going to have to be a different venue. Oh well, it only took 3 months to find this one :rotfl:

Just a thought but could you pick one of the May bank holiday weekends instead and have it on a Sunday, or do they treat that the same as a Saturday in terms of pricing? I guess it depends on the venue but that's what a friend of mine is doing next year as they couldn't get a Saturday at the venue she fell in love with.

If it has to be a Thursday, then just to chuck in my 2p's worth I think if you give people plenty of notice to book the Friday off work most would come - I would definately take a long weekend for a friend or family member's wedding, it's only one day. To me it doesn't seem that different to going to a wedding on a Saturday and it taking up your whole weekend with all the getting ready and recovering from your hangover :)

    Oh that's a cute idea!

We're actually getting married on a Monday as it's cheaper than the weekend, but it's not really the same situation as the OP as we're doing it abroad. Maybe that's why I don't think having a Friday off work to go to a wedding is so bad - we're only having close family there but we're making them all fly out to California and use up a couple of weeks of their annual leave to see us get married :rotfl:

Do you really want that venue enough for a weekday wedding? We thought about it for a little while but after asking around only about 1/2 of the people we would want there would be able to make it. :(

Where is the venue, is it something unique?
