Sorry if there is already a post on this but....
How much do you spend on your supermarket shop per week?
We are a family of 3 and spend approx £100 which I think is shocking but dont know how to reduce it.
TIA

we are also a family of 3 (1 being a toddler!) and used to spend between 100-130 a week and didn't even eat in at the weekend, it was pretty ridicolous really, but glad to hear im not the only one. when i lost my job we managed to 'survive' on about £50 a week.
I think my huge bill comes from a lifetime habbit of picking up only branded stuff and not looking at the prices at all. I know loads of people on here are really good with budgeting shopping and being organized and i wish i could do it, food shopping is the only thing im really terrible at.0 -

We are a family of approximately 3.5 (my son is in the process of moving out) and and the absolute maximum I spend per week including the little extra bits and bobs throughout the week is £50!
I do NOT buy brand names unless they are cheaper than the others through offers etc, other than that we live fairly well. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Hi, with food I always think you have to take into account 3 things - Will it take long to make(quick) ? How much does it cost (cheap)? Is it nice and healthy (good)? You can easily get 2 out of 3 of these things, but all 3 together is more difficult. I'm on a very tight food budget (£30 per week for family of 5) so I try to go for "cheap" and "good" but have to sacrifice "quick":rotfl:
It wouldn't be too difficult for you to cut down your food budget if you wanted to but you would of course have to be prepared to make changes!!!
The simplest way to start is to try out budget supermarket brands and see if they are edible to you:D0 -
We're a family of 5, and our weekly budget is £70, plus another £20 per month for toiletries - but we do buy organic/eco/additive-free etc when ever possible - we could probably drop it by another £20 at least if we didn't.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0

I just did a shop at Mr.T's and spent £27 and a fiver of that was Nasal strips .. I have plenty of meat and bits and pieces in the freezer and store cupboard to make meals for the next week.. On Saturday I will buy fresh bread and veg and fruit for the week and spend maybe £15, on average I spend about £40 for myself and OH.. its never more than £50... I also don't buy brands . I buy things to make actual meals and don't buy anything for inbetween snacks apart from fruit and the odd pack of bikkies . We are trying to use portion control too so are eating less but that can only be good for our waistlines...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

for me i don't really have any set budget. i always had a budget of £200 per month for 5 of us. but now i just use what i need. i did a shop at end of april cost £75 and it will be enough to last us until end of next week. and i prob spend about £6 a week on milk and bread. so the £75 shop prob lasting about 3 week's. but it can really vary depending on whats on offer an what weather like. i like to cook from scratch and cook nice proper home made family meal's. like spag bol, chilli, toad in hole, casseroles etc. i buy a big chicken from sainsbury ( usually basic range ) costs about £4 to £4.50. i will slow cook it and there is loads of meat on it. enough to make at least 4 meals. like a roast one day, chicken pie the next, chicken curry and a chicken risotto for instance.
i have to slow cook it , because i can't carve a chicken or eat meat been by a bone but when i slo cook it. the bones litrally fall off and get so much more meat off it. so for me it's ideal. as years ago i would roast a chicken and only eat the breast and waste the rest and i hate admitting to it because i know it a waste but i'm well chuffed i discovered the slow cooker for chickens thanks to this site.0 -
Just the two of us but I average £10 per week. A loaf of bread never need cost more than 30p if you have a freezer as end of day reductions and milk, meat and fish same.
fresh fruit and veg is my largest outgoing and even this you can usually get in reduced isle.:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0
