Benefit/Penision

I was just seeking some advice to help my mum. My father pasted away 3 weeks ago at the age of 59, he had retired from work two years due to ill health. I was just wondering what benefits etc my mum is entitled too. I know she can apply for bereavement benefit but that only last one year. She was advised she could apply for a widow’s pension but what is this. She is still working 30+ a week but she is on a low income as she only gets around £6 per hour.

I have already spoken to council for single person pounce but is there any other benefits schemes etc she could apply for?

Any help/advice would be grateful

How old is your mum ?

Widows Pension was superceded by Bereavement Benefit in 2002 for all new claimants.

She may be able to claim something from his pension scheme that he was receiving.

My Mum is only 57, still working but on a low wage
  • I think she can claim Working Tax Credits and maybe Council Tax Benefit. Also Housing Benefit if her house is rented.
